(Dairy Industry)
Dairy Industries’ waste water is consider a highly pollutant waste according to high concentration of organic material such as proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids, high concentrations of suspended solids, high biological oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD), high nitrogen concentrations, high suspended oil and/or grease contents, and large variations in pH. These characteristics requires special treatment to reduce environmental impacts. Mechanical, physical-chemical and biological treatment are common for dairy industries. Mechanical methods require equalizer unit, and also, they only remove a part of suspended solids. Physical-chemical methods are mostly use for emulsions. However, using indicators increase expenses, and COD removal is not competent. Base on our researches and our experiences, biological treatment methods are the most efficient for milk powder factories, therefore a biological treatment plant was designed for the factory.
